Introducing ark nonprofit consulting: Turning the Nonprofit Sector on its Head

Ever since I was young, I wanted to change the world. My life has been dotted with instances of compassion and service as far back as I can remember. 

One of my most vivid memories is of me hanging back to hold a door open for an elderly couple – a man pushing his wife in a wheelchair – as my family was leaving a restaurant. I was five years old. It was nothing extraordinary, but it was significant to those people, and to me. 

But nobody tells you growing up that you can make a career out of helping other people. At least, nobody told me. In hindsight, my foray into the nonprofit world was inevitable.

What I love about working in the nonprofit sector is the no-nonsense, get-shit-done attitude and teaming up with badass people who see injustices in the world and will stop at nothing to fix them. But I’ve also seen first-hand the cracks in the façade and toxicity of some environments. 

The systems within which we operate are flawed–and they’re working exactly the way they were intended to. Not much has changed in the last 400 years. Even with the purest intentions, nonprofits have to fight an uphill battle, often stumbling in the process. Something has to change, and in a big way. 

Through everything from strategic guidance and capacity building, to program evaluation and grant writing, my mission is to empower small to midsized nonprofits to grow sustainably and do their best work. Much like the nonprofits I work with, I’m not trying to single-handedly save the world, but I will sure as hell be a part of the change. 

And no, I’m not trying to say everything is hopeless. On the contrary. However, we need to be completely honest in order to fix the root cause, not just alleviate the symptoms of the sickness.

The good news is, positive change is entirely possible.
